World Asthma Day
World asthma day is celebrated on the 6th day of May every year. This year's asthma day was on a Tuesday. The theme is 'You can control your asthma'. This is a special day for asthma patients all over the world as this makes them feel appreciated and cared for. On this day, organizations dealing with the condition such as Gina and WHO let the world know what they have been doing to stamp out the disease.
This day is an occasion for patients to meet and share their views and struggles when dealing with the disease, mostly they encourage each other and bonds are created. Different countries celebrate this special day differently. In most, a special place is set up where people can come together and relate with one another. Some patients who are in the chronic stages of the disease get special attention on world asthma day.
Those that are hospitalized in special asthma centers get visited and spend time with prominent people in the up front fighting the disease. It is a very emotional day as the governments let their people know what they have been doing to kick the disease out. Those who have the condition get to air their views, how the disease has affected their entire lives and how they are dealing with it.
Asthma patients get to know the most modern ways of dealing with the condition. This includes medications and prevention measures, information on the condition is given in these special forums. Some countries also organize free diagnosis and treatments for asthma on world asthma day.
