Boston Celtics Playoff Tickets – Rondo Finally Getting Credit He Deserves

It took a historically great game from Rajon Rondo for the league to finally take notice of just how good the Boston Celtics point guard truly is. Though not many analysts will have Rondo near the top of the NBA point guards in the league, the game suggested that maybe they should. Even if his regular season numbers aren't as spectacular as some in the league, Rondo continues to impress in the postseason and is the main reason that the Cavs were pushed to the brink of elimination heading into the May 13th game in Boston.

The main reason, it seems, that Rondo hasn't gotten the accolades he deserves is because of the other players on his team. Kevin Garnett is the Big Ticket. Paul Pierce has been called The Truth by Shaquille O'Neal. Then there's Ray Allen, a player with a jumpshot so smooth Spike Lee cast him opposite Denzel in "He Got Game." Despite the all-around game that Rondo has been exhibiting for the past few seasons, he has loomed in the shadows of great NBA players. Well, not anymore.

In a pivotal game four matchup in Boston with the Celtics down 2-1, Rondo tore up the number one seeded Cavs. Rondo tallied 29 points and 13 assists to go along with two steals. Already this would be a huge game for even an elite guard in the league, but Rondo did much more than help the Celtics score the basketball. Rondo snagged 18 rebounds as well, giving him one of the greatest postseason games in the history of the franchise, a team that has no shortage of great players over the years. With the new momentum, the Celtics breezed through the Cavs in game five and took command of the series coming back to Boston. For Rondo, the league finally was forced to realize that it has been Rondo who has carried the Celtics this season, taking considerable pressure off the Big Three and giving them another legitimate shot at winning the title.

With dominant point guards like Deron Williams, Steve Nash and Chris Paul putting up absurd numbers on a nightly basis, it's easy to see why Rondo gets overlooked. His 13.7 points per game, while very solid, doesn't compare with the scoring numbers of the elite point guards, but he also is playing on a team that requires the Big Three to get plenty of shot opportunities. This past regular season, Rondo shot better than 50% from the floor for the second consecutive season, proving that he is a very efficient scorer. His 9.8 assists per game also ranked fourth in the entire NBA.

What is probably most impressive, however, is the way that he's improved from year to year. Rondo has increased his scoring, assists and field goal percentage during each of his four seasons in the NBA and led the league in steals during the regular season, as well. At just 6'1", Rondo was also in the top five for rebounding point guards. Much like Deron Williams and Steve Nash, though, what makes Rondo special is his ability to control the pace of the game and make good decisions. Though he's at his best when he's pushing the ball in transition, Rondo is very coachable and can run the offense out of a half-court set as well. In the most cerebral position in the NBA, Rondo has one of the highest basketball IQs on the floor each time he takes it.

The only thing lacking in Rondo's game is a decent jumpshot, though this has done little to slow him down. If Rondo can work on developing a mid-range game, much like Tony Parker did a few seasons back, he could become completely unguardable, which he already nearly is. Most importantly for a city like Boston, Rondo has proven for the third consecutive season that he is a big-time postseason performer, helping sell loads of Boston Celtics Playoff tickets. Though it's easy to forget about Rondo in the midst of other stars in the league with more recognizable names, his game is starting to speak for itself.
