Middle Sec
Middle Sec
So it take light from the sun to hit earth about 8 Min. 20 sec. but that light is millions of years old?
I am watching something on netflix about the sun by Discovery Channel and I am confused. Did I caught them right? They said the light and heat of the sun is from the middle (No duh ) but it say that takes the photons at millions of years to get out of the sun.
Because the photons get absorbed and re-emitted by the atoms inside sun millions of times a second and as such, can not travel in a straight line. So it might take 100's of years just to go a centimeter.
Another way of visualizing how photons move inside the sun is looking a poll table with dozens of balls on it. Your job is to get the cue ball into one spefic pocket without getting any of the other balls in the pocket. And the table is moving randomly. You can do it, but it takes a lot of time.
