In curling, when all but the last stone is thrown, why is the last just thrown through and not tried to score?

I see when stones from the opposite team has been eliminated from the House, the last player, instead of trying to land his stone in the center of the house, he will get up and toss it THROUGH the house and not score...why is that?

The person with the last stone is the team with the "hammer". In curling this is a very valuable thing to have. If a team has the hammer and gets any number of points then they loose hammer, and the other team gets it. Often, instead of getting just one point and loosing the hammer to the other team, they choose to get no points and go on to the next "end" (round) still having the hammer in the hopes that they can get more points in that end.
