Why do national politicians feel good treating Alaska as colony and not a State?
Alaska has tremendous natural resources that should be developed immediately. The country would benefit from that. But, Alaska can not developed them unless the Washinghton D.C. "masters" give their sign of approval.
This situation is no different from from the situation in Africa during the nineteen and twenty centuries when European colonial powers dictated what could and could not be done in its colonies.
I think it's a stretch to compare Alaska to colonies. No one is pointing a gun at Alaska and saying what its people can and can't do, whereas in European colonies in the past, peoples' lives were pretty much run by their oppressors. And if I recall correctly, Alaska gets quite a bit of pork out of Washington.
I also think that from an environmental and economic standpoint, we may be losing more than we gain by going after Alaskan natural resources.
