Can one easily by Red Wings tickets at Joe Lewis arena?

I am in Detroit and am curious if tickets for Red Wings can easily be purchased outside Joe Lewis before a game? I am by myself and only need one ticket.

Lets assume a mediocre Regular Season Game in poor weather.

Tickets are available on Craig's list but it seems easier to just buy them at the venue from someone trying to unload a ticket they cannot use.
I am under the assumption that purchasing tickets for an amount less Than Face Value is legal at Joe Lewis.

If you buy the ticket at face value or less, most states consider it a legal transaction

Things to keep in mind
- it is illegal to sell an NHL ticket for more than face value PRIOR to the event (this constitutes scalping and is illegal regardless of the venue (i.e. eBay, other auction sites)). The NHL maintains a group of several people now who monitor auction sites and newspapers for 'illegal' sales and last year over 12,000 people across North America were charged with scalping NHL tickets through various forums (900 of these were in connection with the Winter Classic)

- not all "scalpers" are holding legitimate tickets. In other words, there is the possibility that you are being scammed with counterfeit tickets. This is something that is on the rise the last couple of years in all major sports, not just the NHL. The NBA discovered a 'ring' in Washington State last year that was 'printing' counterfeit tickets for resale for all 4 major sports.
