Would this be a fair comparison between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady?
Tom Brady is a real good QB on a GREAT team. Peyton Manning is a GREAT QB on a real GOOD team. Some seem to think that Brady is better simply because he plays on a better team. If you were to start a team today, and had to pick a QB currently playing to start it with, the overwhelming consensus would say Peyton Manning. Manning hasn't had the luxury of a great defense and special teams that Brady has been blessed with over the years. Manning will finish with all the records and possibly be considered the greatest QB ever, at the very least second best, behind Montana. Brady won't be any higher than 5th.
Side note: Bill Russell has 11 rings, Jordan has 6, yet Jordan is the greatest player ever, not to mention greatest athlete ever. So the point that Brady has more rings is a pretty weak argument.
One more point: Though it has nothing to with their performance, Manning is the face of the league and loved outside of Indianapolis. Not many outside of NE love Tom Brady.
That's what I've thought for a long time. Brady is a very good QB, don't get me wrong, but if I had my choice, I'd pick Peyton easily.
