Two friends have asked me to perform their wedding in California. How can I get the right to do this?

Does anyone know what I would need to do to be able to legally marry two people in the stae of California?

You will need to be ordained. You can go to your local courthouse to find information on how to do this, or there are several websites that will allow you to become ordained by mail. A quick Yahoo! search brought up tons of sites... see one below.
