NASCAR - Brad Keselowski Wins the Sprint Cup at Talladega

In the midst of an exciting race that involved several car crashes, the young driver of 25 years, Brad Keselowski, who competes in the Nascar Sprint Cup for the Hendrick Motorsports team, had a very good chance to show his driving skills and managed to overcome all the complicated situations that came over on the race; he left behind all his pursuers at the end of the competition, moving quickly to place himself at the leading position and was able to remain there until the finish line.

This is the first victory in the Sprint Cup Series for the rookie Keselowski, who began his participation in this category last year when he debuted in Texas on the Dickies 500. The race had a very intense start and as it was passing by there were some accidents which constantly forced the pilots to enter the pits area while the track was cleaned from the debris, situation that also threaten with suspending the race.

This kind of incidents encouraged the Nascar authorities to implement a system that regulates the speed of vehicles for the upcoming competitions, but this is a factor that some drivers consider negative, as it could cause serious collective accidents if small groups of cars are formed.

This race kept the spectators’ attention focused on every single thing going on with the drivers and their cars but it was overshadowed by the crashes and problems in the track. The development and performance of the race got severely affected at the seventh lap when 13 cars got involved in a collective crash, causing the yellow flag to appear and change the pace of the race, reducing the speed while the track was been cleaned.

When the race was restored, the strong fight and continuous friction among the cars became more evident and with the events that had already happened in the track, it was easy to foresee more accidents coming up. That was exactly what happened when there were just nine laps left to finish the race; another collective crash involved 10 cars this time, including those of Juan Pablo Montoya, Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin.

Once again the pace of the competition decreased and when it got restarted, the drivers that got already the adrenalin going, speed up their cars in order to get to the leading position, trying to finish the race in the best position possible. It was in the middle of this fight that Brad Keselowski was able to move quickly ahead of Ryan Newman and Dale Earnhardt Jr. until he placed himself behind Carl Edwards, who was in the top at the moment. At Keselowski’s attempt to get to the first place, he crashed Edwards’ car, which was thrown from the track, hit the catch fence and fell back in the track. In that moment some debris flew to the grandstands, but fortunately neither the assistants nor Edwards were seriously injured.

After this, Keselowski speed up his Chevrolet #25 deeply, passed the finish line and crown himself as champion of the Talladega Superspeedway.
