Lower Infield
New Hampshire track......track for bad luck, new rules and changes?
In 2000, two young nascar drivers were killed at NHIS. Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin, Jr.
In 2001, a NHIS race was to be held the same week of the 9/11 attacks by terrorists.
In 2002, in an effort to increase competitive racing, the track's corners were turned into a progressive banking system, as the apron was paved and became part of the track, and the track's banking was varied from 4 degrees in the lower two lanes to 12% grade.
In 2003 an incident occurred at this track involving Dale Jarrett where his car was stuck in the middle of the race track and was in danger of getting hit. NASCAR banned racing back to the caution flag, resulting in a "free pass" (popularly referred to as "the lucky dog")
Track flooded in Oct. 2005
In mid-May 2006, Loudon experienced damaging floods after a week of near-record rainfall. The infield was flooded, as was the track itself (while a road racing event was going on.)
What going to happen in 2007????
NASCAR is already killing the sport on its on. NHIS will survive because people love to race in the NE. Big E died at Daytona. Any race can be the last. Nascar must get off their high horse and their daily rule changes or the ride will be over. Look at the unsponsered cars this weekend. Would you put up a million bucks to be fined for something nobody understands? NHIS is a treasure for NH and will survive. As for NASCAR, Helton has got to go!!!!!
